About Altinkum
Altinkum (which literally translates as ‘Golden Sands’) certainly lives up to its name, with miles of glorious coastline framed by a spectacular mountain backdrop. It is located approximately 1.5 hours from Bodrum and 1.5 hours from Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey. Most UK airports offer flights to both locations.
The region remains unspoilt and offers something for everyone, from relaxing on a beach, to enjoying watersports or exploring Turkey’s rich cultural history:
- 5 minutes drive away is Didim, a thriving traditional Turkish town which has many excellent restaurants, bars and shops as well as a street market.
- Within easy reach of a wealth of historical sites such as the famous ruined temple of Apollo at Didim, whilst the nearby Roman city of Ephesus contains the temple of Apollo’s sister, Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
In an area specially designated for tourist development by the Turkish government, extensive upgrading of local infrastructure is already underway. Work has commenced on the new marina, due for completed in 2009, which is five minutes away, and on a ferry terminal linking the town to the Greek islands. Plans have also been proposed for a new golf course adjacent to the resort.
